Fritz Millwork creates custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, and furniture for residential projects where design intent and long-term performance matter. Based in Minnesota, we support projects locally and across select national markets.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The best time to bring us into a project is during design development once the overall layout is established but before details are locked in. That timing allows us to review drawings, flag potential conflicts, and propose details that are both beautiful and buildable.

We can also join later in the process if millwork has already been designed. In those cases, we focus on translating existing drawings into precise shop drawings, confirming materials and finishes, and coordinating with other trades.

For major remodels or new builds, involving us early often results in cleaner details, fewer site surprises, and a smoother installation.

  • The best fit projects are ones where millwork plays a central role in the overall experience of the space. That often means custom kitchens, entertaining & living spaces, master suites and bathrooms, any space where integrated storage, bars, libraries, and bedrooms with thoughtfully designed closets and built-ins.

We’re well-suited to work where the design relies on precise alignment, integrated lighting, or complex details projects where the millwork must line up with stone, metal, and other trades without compromise.

If your project values quiet, refined details, long-term durability, and a coordinated team approach, it is likely a strong fit for Fritz Millwork.

  • Custom cabinetry refers to built storage elements such as kitchen cabinets, vanities, wardrobes, and built-ins that are designed around how you use a space. It focuses on function, internal organization, and daily use.

Architectural millwork includes the broader woodwork that shapes a room—wall paneling, ceiling details, trim, casing, doors, and integrated elements that tie the architecture together. It focuses on the character and continuity of the interior, often in coordination with the architect’s details.

Both are custom and made to fit a specific project. Cabinetry is typically about storage and function, while architectural millwork is about the overall language of the space and how the woodwork supports it.

  • We regularly partner with local and national architects, interior designers, and builders, and we are also comfortable working directly with homeowners when that’s the right fit for the project.

On trade-led projects, we join the team early, review drawings, and coordinate closely with the design and construction schedules. On homeowner-led projects, we help clarify scope, materials, finishes, and budget, and we can recommend design and build partners if needed.

Our goal is to join the project in the way that best protects the design intent and ensures the millwork is executed cleanly whether that means working through your team or serving as a direct partner.

  • We handle both fabrication and installation for most projects, which allows us to control quality from the shop to the finished space. Our team builds the work in our shop, then coordinates delivery and installation on site.

For projects where another trade or contractor is responsible for installation, we still provide detailed shop drawings, clear labeling, and coordination support so the work can be installed correctly.

If you already have an installer or builder in place, we’ll clarify roles early in the process so everyone understands who is responsible for what on site.

  • We serve the Twin Cities and surrounding communities, including Minneapolis, St. Paul, and suburbs such as Edina, Wayzata, Minnetonka, Long Lake, Orono, Independence and so forth.

Depending on scope and schedule, we also consider projects in greater Minnesota and select national markets. Travel, site coordination, and installation logistics are discussed upfront so there are no surprises.

If you’re unsure whether your project is in our service area, reach out through our contact form with your project location and we’ll let you know what’s possible.
